Blog Action Day 2010: Water

Donate to Wojo’s 27th Birthday Charity: Water fund! (direct link)

I wasn’t planning to do this until the blog was much, much bigger and the audience could support a strong effort. But a friend of mine pointed out something cool happening only today and I felt obligated to help in any way I could.

Every year, thousands of bloggers across the world come together to address the same topic. Blog Action Day for 2010 is focusing on Water.  If you are interested in learning more about this year’s Blog Action Day, check out the website link above or view this short video:

Rather than tell you about how over one billion people in the world don’t have access to clean water or what water means to me, I’m going to tell you what I’m doing about it.

One of the most unique charities in the world is charity: water. It’s well-organized, well-exposed, and most importantly—100% of our donations go directly to giving people water, rather than paying for administrative fees. I really like their model and it’s one of the handful of charities that I’ve chosen to personally support.

Charity: water encourages people to give up their birthdays by having others donate the birthday person’s age in dollars, instead of buying gifts. With such a prevalent consumerist culture, it’s a refreshing surprise that this model has taken off!

Help Me Raise $500!

I can only do it with your help!

I’m turning 27 years old on November 12th. For my birthday, I’ve set a goal of raising $500 toward charity: water. If just 18 people donate my age in dollars, we’ll be able to give about 25 people clean water and a better life.

So here’s your call to action today and I hope you take it:

I’ve started things off by donating the first $27 this morning. All you have to do is go to my campaign page and donate there. You can also follow our progress to the goal!

Donate $27, donate $100 or donate a dime. Every little bit helps, and I hope we can join together for this great cause!

(P.S. You have until December 31st before the campaign closes!)

Thank you!
